Why this place
Clifton’s coves sit below Victoria Road, with boulders dividing the sand into smaller spaces. They suit a day spent settling in rather than walking a long coastline. Choose your cove with the return climb in mind, especially when carrying children or bags, and allow yourself time to enjoy the setting without adding too many stops.
Pack water, food and sun protection before going down, since buying something may mean leaving the beach. Bring a layer for the return and shoes for the steps. Ask locally about the most suitable access if mobility is a concern. Atlantic water can be cold; check conditions and supervision rather than judging swimming safety by the sunshine.
