Your information.
This page says what we collect, why, and who can see it. To see, correct or remove what we hold about you, write to info@salaamscapetown.com.
Who holds it
Salaam’s Cape Town is a project by The Muslim Agency. It celebrates the history and heritage of Cape Town, and has done since 2023, organising bespoke tours, retreats and excursions. We work closely with local businesses and historians, and support them.
The Muslim Agency decides how your information is used and is responsible for it.
What we collect, and who sees it
- Signing in. Your email address, and your name and photograph if you sign in with Google. We record the device and internet address of each sign-in so you can review and end your sessions. Only you and the site administrators see these, apart from the first name on a comment.
- Bookings. The excursion, your party size, any companion names you choose to add, the amount, and the payment record from Stripe. Only you and the site administrators see these. Your card number and security code never reach us. Stripe’s record of a payment, which we keep, can include the card type, its last four digits, and the name and postcode you gave at checkout.
- Interest in an excursion. If you register interest while signed in: your party size and any note. Only the site administrators see these.
- Interest in a free event. Your name, email address and party size. Only the site administrators see these. You do not need an account.
- Passing on a ticket. The name and email address of the person taking your place, and your note. Only the site administrators see these. Please tell the person before you give us their details.
- Comments on excursion pages. Anyone can read them, signed in or not. They show your first name, the date and what you wrote. Do not put anything private in a comment. An administrator can remove one, and you can ask us to. A removed comment leaves the page and stays in our records.
- Enquiries. Your name, email address and message, from the contact and Giving Back forms. The site administrators read them, and you get a copy by email.
- Saved places. Kept with your account, so you sign in to save. Only you see them.
- Your choices. Appearance, currency, and a hotel you pin on the map. We keep these so the site looks the same next time. Only you see them.
- Unfinished forms. If a form fails to send, we hold what you typed for 30 minutes so you do not have to type it again.
- Email updates. Your email address, the updates you chose, and the record of your consent. Every update we send has an unsubscribe link. When you create an account, your email address goes on the same list with updates switched off.
- Emails we send you. We keep a copy of booking confirmations, refund notices and other emails the site sends, so we can check what was sent if something goes wrong.
If you are here for the retreat week
- Your profile. Travel dates, flight details, accommodation, home city and country, WhatsApp number, a note, and any personal plans you add to your calendar. These are private to you and the site administrators unless you switch on sharing.
- Sharing. The guest directory is optional. In sharing choices you decide whether other signed-in guests see you, your dates and where you are staying. Flight numbers are never shown to other guests.
- Photographs. A profile photograph is visible to signed-in guests. If you have not uploaded one, that is your Google photograph. Location and camera details are removed from anything you upload, and you can replace or remove it.
- Coach journeys. The coach you chose, your pickup area, party size, luggage and notes. Only the site administrators see these.
- Plans you host or join. An approved plan shows its title, time, place and description to signed-in guests. They can see who has joined, where those people have agreed to be named, and read the discussion.
- Messages and the attendee board. A direct message can be read by the two people in it. Board posts can be read by signed-in guests. You can turn messaging off or block someone in message settings.
- Share links. If you make a link to your itinerary, anyone with the link can read what you chose to include until it expires or you switch it off.
Who else handles it
- Stripe takes payments and sends refunds.
- Google provides sign-in with Google, the maps and the place search. What you type into a place search goes to Google, and a page with a map loads it from Google.
- Resend delivers our emails.
- Railway hosts the site.
- Supabase holds the database and any photograph you upload.
We do not sell your information, and we do not run advertising trackers.
Counting visits
We count page views and clicks as daily totals. Those totals hold no names, no internet addresses and no search terms. If your browser asks not to be tracked, we do not count you.
Cookies
We set cookies to keep you signed in, to protect forms, and to remember your choices: appearance, currency, and the hotel you pin on the map. None of them is used for advertising.
How long we keep it
We keep your account until you ask us to close it. We keep records of payments and refunds, because we have to account for the money we take. Ask, and we remove the rest by hand.
