Table Mountain gives you a useful first look at the shape of Cape Town. The city sits between the mountain and the harbour, while the peninsula stretches away towards Cape Point. The rotating cable car makes the ascent part of the outing, but leave room to walk once you reach the top. Choose a clear spell and keep another day available if cloud settles over the summit.
Pack a windproof layer even when the city feels warm, along with water, sun protection and shoes with a firm grip. Check the cableway’s operating status before leaving your accommodation. A ticket does not remove the possibility of weather closures; avoid putting a time-sensitive booking immediately after your descent.
