Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope
Why this place
Cape Point is a day for the scale of the peninsula: steep headlands, open land and sea stretching beyond the lighthouse. The Cape of Good Hope and the lighthouse area are separate stops, so think about the route before setting off. Travelling via Chapman’s Peak can add another coastal view when that road is open, but leave time to get out of the car.
Pack layers, water and a picnic you are comfortable eating. Secure food around baboons and follow the park’s advice about wildlife. Wear shoes with grip for the paths and check the gate’s closing time before planning your return. The exposed headland can feel very different from the weather in central Cape Town.
