Queen Victoria Street, City Bowl
Company’s Garden
Why this place
Company’s Garden offers a gentler stretch of a day in the centre, with paths and lawns where you can pause between museums. The garden began as a supply garden for passing ships, a history worth holding alongside the pleasure of the present-day park. The Iziko South African Museum, National Gallery and Planetarium are in the surrounding cultural precinct, making this a useful base for a day that mixes outdoor space with time indoors.
Bring water and comfortable shoes, keep food packed away from wildlife and choose daylight for your walk. Check each museum separately because a garden visit does not include admission or match its opening times. Palm Tree Mosque on Long Street is a nearby place to include in your city route. Queen Victoria (Jamia) Mosque is in Bo-Kaap, so allow a separate walk or ride for that visit.
