On 11 November 2023, tens of thousands marched from Muir Street Mosque in District Six to Wale Street in solidarity with Palestinians. South Africa filed its application at the International Court of Justice on 29 December 2023.

From District Six to Wale Street

The march left from Muir Street Mosque in District Six and ended at Wale Street, outside the Western Cape legislature. Daily Maverick reported tens of thousands on the route.

South Africa’s application

South Africa filed its application at the International Court of Justice on 29 December 2023. Hearings were held on 11 and 12 January 2024, and on 26 January 2024 the court ordered provisional measures.
